Description of project

The Tsunami Evaluation Coalition (TEC) was created as an initiative to promote a comprehensive cross sector approach to evaluate the relief, reconstruction, and development aspects of the response to the Tsunami. The purpose of the TEC is to set up mechanisms and procedures to establish a coordinated approach to evaluation in the future, while at the same time serve as a means to facilitate sharing sector-wide lessons learned.

DARA conducted the study of UK NGO funding in response to the Tsunami as part of a series of country studies undertaken in the context of an evaluation of the international community’s funding of the Tsunami emergency and relief. The subject is one of five thematic evaluations carried out by the Tsunami Evaluation Coalition (TEC). This thematic funding evaluation on funding was led by DANIDA (Danish International Development Agency).

DARA undertook desk reviews of monitoring reports, implementation papers, reviews and various web sites of 14 UK NGOs.

DARA developed a standardised questionnaire previous to the evaluation and in accordance with the Tsunami Evaluation Coalition (TEC). This questionnaire was used for all evaluations of NGO’s in the participating countries of the TEC study.
