Workshop: Strengthening humanitarian evaluation capacities

DARA will host an ALNAP workshop for Spanish-based evaluators 31st January- Strengthening evaluation capacities: Consultation and peer-learning with evaluators.

The workshop will be an opportunity for evaluators to meet and share the practical issues facing them in their day-to-day work. The programme is particularly relevant for evaluators, policy advisors and programme/operational managers who wish to strengthen evidence-based programming.

Hosting this workshop will build on DARA’s commitment to improve the humanitarian sector’s ability to respond to humanitarian crises through better learning and accountability.

Background

This workshop is part of the broader ALNAP Strengthening Humanitarian Evaluation Capacities’ initiative and  – following other workshops in London, Geneva and Washington, DC – is the first one held in Madrid hosted by DARA.

Since 2011, this initiative has developed significantly, influencing the new structure and content of these series of ALNAP workshops designed for humanitarian evaluators.

Overall, the key features of this initiative are:

•          Supporting an exchange among practitioners about how to concretely tackle the challenge of strengthening evaluation capacities.

•          Facilitating a Community of Practice to enable this conversation and exchange to happen (both online and face-to-face).

•          Promoting the use of a peer learning methodology to share evaluation experiences within a group of peers, and to get practical advice from evaluation colleagues in similar situations.
