In line with the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA), DARA’s Evaluations and Technical Assistance area has been building up its expertise in disaster risk reduction through relevant thematic evaluations and studies undertaken over the last several years, such as the Tsunami Evaluation Coalition (TEC) in 2005 and the Evaluation of DIPECHO action plans in Central America in 2007.
Other Disaster Risk Reduction-related activities include:
- The translation of “Words into Action: A Guide for Implementing the Hyogo Framework for Action” (Spanish) in 2008 in collaboration with the UNISDR (please see this Guide also in English);
- Technical assistance to PREDECAN (European Union Program to support disaster prevention in the Andean Community) – Development of a study that summarizes the progress made in the processes of disaster risk management in the Andean sub-area (Spanish) in 2009;
- Technical assistance to SEGIB (Secretaría General para Iberoamérica) – Mapping and Identification of Mechanisms and Development Funding to Respond to Disaster Emergencies in Latin America (Spanish) in 2008;
- The Risk Reduction Index (RRI) is the principal project in DARA’s DRRI.
