In Nicaragua, the Representative Territorial Units (RTUs) selected were Managua, Río Grande de Matagalpa and Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte (RAAN). In these RTUs, governance was found to be the most influential risk driver, affecting other risk drivers as well. Specifically, strengthening governmental institution throughout the country was found to be of utmost importance since this can help to ensure that existing regulations are applied in order to achieve effective risk reduction.
