Description of project

DARA is undertook the mid-term evaluation of the project “Co-development Programme in the province of Alhucemas (Morocco) and the city of Madrid (Spain)”.

The project is being implemented by the NGO MPDL and it is funded by the City Hall of Madrid. The total duration is 18 months.

As the immigration coming from Morocco, and specially, from the province of Alhucemas, has increased significantly in Madrid during the last ten years, the city Hall of Madrid has created this project in order to give advice and support to the potential immigrants living still in their region of origin. The main objective is to improve their living conditions in the immigrants’ province, in order to curb the need to migrate to another country.  The co-development project has a two strong objective:

  • Creation of new income generation activities for the population living in Al-Hoceima, improving their living conditions.
  • Advice and attention to immigrants in origin.

The project will support the creation of new farmers associations and will also give technical advice for the strengthening of the associative movement in the rural areas of this province.
