Donor scores: Australia
Australia ranks 13th in this year’s Humanitarian Response Index (HRI). Based on the patterns of its scores it is classified as Group 2 donor. This classification allows Australia to compare its performance, not only to all other Organisation for Economic Co-operation Development / Development Assistance Committee (OECD/DAC) donors, but also to a sub-group of donors whose performance is similar. The other Group 2 donors are Canada, the European Commission, Germany, Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Greece. With the exception of Pillar 3 (Working with humanitarian partners), Australia, in comparison with other OECD/DAC donors, is an average donor in most of the “pillars” – groupings of the key concepts of the Principles of Good Humanitarian Donorship, which donors have committed to respect. Australia was also below the average of other Group 2 donors in this pillar, as it was in Pillar 1 (Responding to needs). Australia scored average in 21 of the 35 indicators that comprise the HRI.
