Donor scores: Sweden
Sweden ranks 5th in this year’s Humanitarian Response Index. Based on its scores it is classified as Group 1 donor. This classification allows Sweden to compare its performance, Organisation for Economic Co-operation Development / Development Assistance Committee (OECD/DAC) donors, but also to a sub-group of donors whose performance is similar. The other Group 1 donors include Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland. Overall, Sweden is an above average donor in the five “pillars” – groupings of the key concepts of the Principles of Good Humanitarian Donorship, which the donors have committed to respect, with the exception of Pillar 1 (Responding to needs). It does especially well in Pillar 4 (Protection and international law). Sweden scored close to average in 18 of the 35 indicators that comprise the Humanitarian Response Index, and below average in only five indicators.
