DHAKA, Bangladesh — Representatives of countries worried about how climate change threatens them are meeting in Bangladesh before UN-sponsored talks later this month.
Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurates the conference in Dhaka on Monday when UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will also speak.
The officials will discuss ways of getting assistance in technology, capacity and finance to adapt and pursue low-carbon growth. The representatives from about 30 countries are trying to decide their position beforee upcoming talks in Durban, South Africa.
UN’s Country Director in Dhaka Stefan Priesner told The Associated Press on Sunday the countries are expected to issue a declaration seeking action by industrialized nations and urgent support to limit increasing loss of human life and other damages.
