DARA participated in the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, Third Session, Geneva, Switzerland, 8-13 May 2011.

The biennial forum was held by the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction and brings together stakeholders committed to disaster risk reduction and building local capacity.

The overarching theme for the Global Platform was: Invest Today for a Safer Tomorrow – Increased Investment in Local Action.

DARA recently launched the Risk Reduction Index. The report Analysis of the Capacities and Conditions for Disaster Risk Reduction- a study of seven Central American and Caribbean Countries looks at the capacities and conditions that contribute to the generation of risk. Based on extensive local consultation and analysis, it provides clear guidance for effective risk reduction in vulnerable and hazard-prone areas across the world.
