Description of project

This project served to provide support to the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN) for the construction of 180 new homes and the provision of basic services for a total of 500 homes in 8 settlements.

The project focused on three regions in Namibia (Windhoek, Henties Bay and Walvis Bay), where there was a noticeable shortage of homes for the population with least resources. The idea was to provide access to dignified living conditions through the construction of homes and services’ infrastructure, support and strengthening of the organisational processes which already exist, and to improve environmental conditions through development and transfer of knowledge, education, awareness raising in health and environmental concerns.

A network of savings associations set up by the SDFN is already in place in these municipalities, with the objective of financing the construction of homes and negotiating with the authorities to obtain accessible land.

The project aims to be able to build 30 homes (with one savings group) in Henties, 90 homes (with 2 savings groups) and the basic infrastructure for 100 homes in Walvis Bay; and 400 more homes in Windhoek.
