Description of project

The purpose was to evaluate the Role and Work of FAO in Disaster Risk Reduction within the overall framework of Disaster Risk Management, providing FAO’s Member Countries and FAO Secretariat with a qualitative assessment of the Organization’s activities in this field in two Regions, namely Latin America and Asia. The evaluation highlighted lessons learned and good practices, and provided recommendations on FAO’s role and work in the future, based on the performance and comparative advantages of FAO within the international framework.

The evaluation took place in three phases:
1) Inception phase – Normative and Field Experience desk reviews, Inception report for field phase, and pilot mission to Cambodia
2) Field phase – Quantitative and qualitative research in 11 countries from four regions (Latin America, Caribbean, Central Asia, Southeast Asia)
3) Reporting phase
