DARA in the USA

As of May 2011, DARA is present in the US. Our new office will help us engage in outreach, resource mobilization and working with partners around issues related to impact and quality of humanitarian aid, disaster risk reduction and the human impact of climate change.

Spent 30 years with the World Bank Group, including assignments as the International Finance Corporation’s Regional Representative for Eastern and Southern Africa, for Belarus and Ukraine, and for The Middle East.

James Bishop
Humanitarian Policy and Practice at InterAction from 1995 to 2010, founding member of the Sphere Project Management Team, Former USA Ambassador to Niger, Liberia, and Somalia as well as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Africa (81-87) and Principal Deputy Assistant for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs (91-93).

Harry Cohen-Bensimon
Founding partner at HDCB Advisors LLC (USA), a financial risk advisory firm. 21 year international financial background working in Paris, London, Madrid and NY for major financial institutions, including Credit Suisse, BBVA, Bankers Trust, CIC and BNP.

José María Figueres Olsen
Managing Partner of IJ Partners, and President of the Carbon War Room. Former President of Costa Rica (94-98), and former CEO of the World Economic Forum.

Steven Hansch
Teaching courses in the field of humanitarian aid since the 1970s at Stanford University, Hopkins, Georgetown, George Washington, and other American Universities. Led evaluations of the crises in Somalia, Rwanda, the 2004 tsunami, and Central America in the 1980s.

Susan Martin
Long-time expert on immigration and refugee policy. Executive Director of the Institute for the Study of International Migration in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. Former Executive Director of the U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform.
